The 17th International Symposium on Olefin Metathesis and Related Chemistry (ISOM XVII) was held on July 29 thru August 3, 2007 in Pasadena, California. An ISOM conference is held every two years in varied locations across the world to cover the latest developments in olefin metathesis. The series of ISOM meetings have played an important role in the progress of metathesis and have provided an opportunity for major scientists and industrial leaders involved in this rapidly developing field to meet on a regular basis.

ISOM XVII Points of Interest

• All symposium sessions were held at the Hilton Pasadena Hotel in Pasadena California
• ISOM XVII had over 200 attendees representing 19 countries, 48 academic institutions, and 22 business organizations
• There were 68 talks presented over the 6 day schedule and 58 posters during 2 Poster Sessions
• Events included a Saturday July 28 cocktail reception, a tour of Materia, Inc., and a banquet on the evening on Thursday August 2
• Attendees included Nobel Prize Laureates Robert H. Grubbs and Richard R. Schrock

The success of ISOM XVII was due in a large part to the support of the California Institute of Technology, Materia, and all of the ISOM XVII sponsors.

The next symposium, ISOM XVIII, will be held in Leipzig, Germany, from Sunday, August 2 through noon on Friday, August 7 2009.
